Policy in Practice is a pioneering social policy software and analytics company collaborating with councils, government bodies, housing providers, and community organisations. They specialize in analysing policy impacts, identifying affected individuals, and tracking the effectiveness of interventions. Their innovative Better Off calculator has already helped approximately 10,000 people daily to discover their eligible support, showcasing their significant impact.

The need for real-time data on poverty

Accurately measuring poverty and low income is crucial, and the availability of real-time data is vital for effective policy-making. However, the UK currently lacks reliable real-time data on household living standards, creating a gap in understanding and addressing these issues.

To bridge this gap, Policy in Practice and JRF have developed RAPID, an advanced tool designed to track up-to-date aggregate rates of low income and poverty. RAPID leverages administrative data routinely collected by local authorities through the benefits process, providing a more current and accurate picture of living standards.

Enhancing decision-making with real-time insights

By delivering near real-time data on poverty and living standards, this project will equip charities and local governments with actionable insights. This enhanced data will significantly improve the decision-making process, enabling more effective and timely interventions to support those in need.
