1. We use PDF files extensively
- To view PDF files you will need Adobe Reader (free to download).
- To convert PDF files into html or text files, try this online conversion tool.
2. Changing text styles (size, colour, font)
Most web browsers allow you to change text and link styles. More advanced features (such as magnification and alternative style sheets) are also available in certain browsers.
Choose your browser from the list below for instructions. (To find out what browser/version you're using, choose 'Help' then 'About' from the top menu in your browser.)
- Internet Explorer (versions 5 and above)
- Internet Explorer (version 4)

Internet Explorer (versions 5 and above)
Changing the text size:
- Choose your required size from the 'Text Size' option under the 'View' menu.
Changing the text colours/fonts
First, you need to override website styles:
- From the 'Tools' menu, select 'Internet Options'.
- Choose the 'Accessibility' button (bottom right).
- Check the boxes relevant to your needs.
- Click OK to return to the options menu.
Then, to change colours:
- Choose the 'Colours' button (bottom left).
- Deselect 'Use Windows colours'.
- Choose the text, background, and link colours you need.
- Click OK to return to the options menu.
To change font:
- Choose 'Fonts'.
- Select the font you want.
- Click OK to return to the options menu.
Internet Explorer (version 4)
Changing the text size:
- From the 'View' menu, choose 'Fonts' and select the text size you need.
Changing the text colours/fonts:
First, you need to override website styles:
- From the 'View' menu, choose 'Internet Options'.
- Click on the 'Accessibility' button (bottom right).
- Check the boxes relevant to your needs.
- Click OK to return to the options menu.
Then, to change colours:
- Choose the 'Colours' button (bottom left).
- Deselect 'Use Windows colours'.
- Choose the text, background, and link colours you need.
- Click OK to return to the options menu.
Netscape (versions 6 and above)
Changing the text size:
- From the 'View' menu, select 'Text Zoom' and choose your text size.
Changing the text colours/fonts:
- From the 'Edit' menu, select 'Preferences'.
Then, to change fonts:
- Expand the 'Appearances' menu and select 'Fonts'.
- Uncheck the 'Allow documents to use other fonts' checkbox.
- Choose from the available options.
- Choose 'OK' to return to browsing.
To change colours:
- Expand the 'Appearances' menu and select 'Colors'.
- Select the 'Always use my colors...' checkbox.
- Make your choices from the available options.
- Choose 'OK' to return to browsing.
Netscape (version 4)
Changing the text size:
- From the 'View' menu, choose 'Increase Font' or 'Decrease Font'.
Changing the text colours/fonts:
- From the 'Edit' menu, choose 'Preferences'.
Then, to change fonts:
- Expand the 'Appearances' menu and select 'Fonts'.
- Select the 'Use my default fonts...' checkbox.
- Make your choices from the available options.
- Choose 'OK' to return to browsing.
To change colours:
- Expand the 'Appearances' menu and select 'Colors'.
- Select the 'Always use my colors...' checkbox.
- Make your choices from the available options.
- Choose 'OK' to return to browsing.
Opera (version 7)
Changing the text size:
- From the 'View' menu, choose 'Zoom' and select the viewing size you need.
Changing the text colours/fonts:
First, you need to override website styles:
- From the 'Tools' menu, choose 'Preferences'.
- From the 'Page style' menu, choose 'User mode' in the 'Default mode'.
From the 'Page style' menu you can then change link styles and background colour:
- Staying in the 'Preferences' window, choose 'Fonts'.
- Make your choices from the options available.

Firefox
Changing the text size:
- Choose 'View' from the menu bar.
- Choose required size.
Changing the text colours/fonts:
- From the 'Tools' menu, choose 'Options'.
- Select your options from the 'Fonts and Colours' menu.
Safari
Changing the text size:
- From the 'View' menu, choose 'Make Text Bigger' or 'Make Text Smaller'.
Changing the text colours/fonts:
To change the colours, font style, etc. you will need to provide your own stylesheet which can be assigned in the Safari preferences. (How do I do this?)

4. Listen to our website using Browsealoud
Our website is speech enabled, using Texthelp's Browsealoud software.
This program reads out the text on our site as you hover over it with your mouse. It is free to download, and the latest version can read PDF documents (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 6 or above).
